WHO WE ARE

Scenic City Velo is a city-wide, competition oriented cycling club which came into being for 2005 with the merger of three premier racing clubs in Chattanooga; the North Chattanooga Cycle Club (NCCC), Suck Creek Cycles, and Team Peggy. SCV was born out of a desire to bring all the competitive assets of the local cycling community under one roof, in order to better serve the interests of Chattanooga cyclists and help them reach a higher level in competition. Our membership represents a wealth of experience and success in all cycling disciplines, including championship titles both on and off the road, from the local to the national level. So whether you’re a dyed-in-the-wool roadie, a hardcore mountain biker, or a second shaving triathlete, you’ll find friends in Scenic City Velo who can help you get to the next level. SCV is a member club of both  USA Triathlon and USA Cycling. We are also a proud member of the Tennessee Bicycle Racing Association  (TBRA), an organization dedicated to the promotion and development of bicycle racing in Tennessee. SCV won the 2005, 2007, and 2009-2012 TBRA Road Club of the Year points competition, as well as the 2009 TBRA Mountain Bike Club of the Year competition. SCV membership grew to over 200 members in 2012.

 

MISSION STATEMENT

Scenic City Velo is open to all cyclists with an interest in the sporting side of cycling, be it competition, training, or just fast recreational riding. The club offers experienced, competitive riders a supportive framework to pursue their racing goals, as well as offering new or recreational cyclists an environment in which to grow and learn about the competitive aspects of the sport.

Club activities and benefits:

• Scheduled training events and clinics for road racing, mountain bike racing, and cyclocross
• Promotion of sanctioned races - road, MTB, and cyclocross
• Custom-designed team apparel available to members at special club pricing
• Club website and online discussion forum
• Club discounts from preferred area bicycle retailers
• Racer Support Program

Club membership requirements:

• Annual dues of $30 entitle members to all club benefits. There is a link to the membership application and waiver at the top of the page.
• To qualify for racer support members must meet additional volunteerism/race participation requirements.

EVENT PROMOTION

SCV promotes a number of races, clinics and training events each year, drawing hundreds of competitors, along with their families and friends, from around the Southeast to the Chattanooga area. Events we proudly sponsor are:

• Berry Peddler: SCV promotes a spring road race and time trial in Dayton TN as part of the TBRA points series.
• River Gorge Omnium. Held in the fall, River Gorge is one of the most challenging events on the TBRA circuit with its signature mountain top finish. The Omnium features a downtown criterium as well as a unique time trial around the reservoir atop Raccoon Mountain.
• Cyclocross Racing: SCV promotes one cyclocross race as part of the TBRA points series and one race as part of the Georgia Cross series.

OUR TEAMS

Club Team

Scenic City Velo shares a goal of promoting the city of Chattanooga as an outdoor recreational hotbed in the Southeast, as well as creating opportunities for the people that live in the Chattanooga area to get involved in competitive bicycle sports. SCV club members participate in bike races and triathlons all over the country and even occasionally in other countries. This has helped give Scenic City Velo and our sponsors far reaching exposure at cycling, mountain bike, and triathlon events within the Southeast and beyond. From small town road races to big NCC criteriums, from local sprint triathlons to Ironman events, SCV club members will continue to compete at all levels in 2013 and beyond.

Sub Teams

Scenic City Velo has incorporated a model that allows for smaller, tight knit racing teams to exist under the club umbrella and still receive some of the benefits associated with club membership. Sub Teams must meet certain requirements set up by the club’s board of directors. These teams race with Scenic City Velo club affiliation under USA Cycling, but are largely responsible for their own sponsorship. 2013 SCV Sub Teams will include:
